I Heart Serge Gainsbourg II
[Update! See Below...]Paris, 1967 - unshaven chanteur Serge Gainsbourg and actress Brigitte Bardot release the ballad of Bonnie and Clyde.
Fast forward to the 1990s and Serge and Brigitte's Bonnie and Clyde starts showing up everywhere...
Luna covers it in French as does Stereolab. Mick Harvey covers it in English.
My favorite take on it is MC Solaar who sampled it extensively for Nouveau Western, a tribute Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name:
"Le vent souffle en Arizona... Un état d´Amérique dans lequel Harry zona..."
(Solaar gives the Man with No Name the name "Harry," presumably because of Eastwood's Dirty Harry films. The French love American cinema.)
[Update: I forgot about this Japanese version of the song. I believe the band is Oh! Penelope.]
