Let's Give Him His Due

Spring is a time for reawakening. As the massive ice, dirt and snowbanks from this harsh New England winter melt to give way to new life, some of the more dogmatic thoughts that clutter my mind are giving way to new realizations. Well, not all of them are so new.

I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but it's time to give George W. Bush his due.

TWO WHOLE MONTHS AGO we witnessed a miracle in New Iraq - a Purple-Finger Peoples' Army of sorts - that was willing, like Our President, to stand up to the forces of tyranny and say, "enough."

Two months have passed and despite the warnings of the naysayers and blame-America-firsters and the terrorist-supporters in the blogosphere, in Europe and in the MSM, Iraq hasn't collapsed into a cauldron of anarchy. Instead the new democratically elected Iraqi government has marched onward into the annals of freedom.

We can see Bush's civilizing influence paying similar dividends throughout the Middle East, a primative region that is begging to be lifted from the dark ages into modernity through the gifts of American style democracy, technology, capitalism and freedom.

Take what has been happening in Beiruit. Once universally maligned as "The Paris of the Mediterranean," the Lebanese capital has been the scene of massive, inspirational demonstrations of Bush-mandated yearning for freedom in recent weeks. The Syrians, notorious terrorists, murderers and thieves have made Lebanon their staging area for regular ruthless terrorist attacks against Israel for the past appx. 50 years. Now, thanks to Bush, they are running back to Damascus with their tails between their legs.

And look at Israel - on the verge of finally solving the Palestinian problem after years and years of failed attempts by previous Democratic American Presidential Administrations. Savages to the bitter end they may be, the Palestinians aren't "stupid," and they can see the writing on the Wailing Wall: Now that that little desert turd Arafat is out of the picture, do what Bush and Sharon tell you to do or suffer the consequences. As you can see, the only question from the Palestinians so far has been, "Mr. Bush, how high shall we jump, sir?"

They say that a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged. I'm not sure what I am - perhaps I'm a liberal that has been mugged by reality. It's well and good to sit here behind our computer screens sniveling about the "reality-based community" and human rights and the Geneva Convention and where are those WMDs? (please, friends, can we stop beating that dead horse???). The fact is that Bush won the war in Afghanistan. He won the war in Iraq. He is winning the War on Terror. Freedom is on the march, as he said it would be, throughout the Middle East. He won the election in November...

It's time for us to quit our whining and shit or get off the pot.

I for one have finished shitting.
