MalkinWatch: ""SCREW THEM:" NOT A JOKE:" WHAT A JOKE

Michelle Malkin posted a nasty attack on Markos Zuniga of DailyKos today - the one year anniversary of Markos' "screw them" comment about the mercenaries who were killed in Fallujah.

Malkin's post is so cruel and wrong in so many ways that it deserves a serious debunking. Auguste at MalkinWatch has done the job. Thanks, Auguste.

One thing I would like to add:

In the post, Malkin casually refers to the "hate-America Left." This is infuriating. Does the "liberals hate America" meme persist amongst wingnuts because they believe it or because they think it's funny or because they know that it pushes our buttons?

It should be apparent to thinking conservatives who watch the liberal "blogosphere" that we lefties love our country and believe in our country and are invested in the goodness of our country. We are at odds with the direction that we see our country going in. We would like to see things done differently. We would like to see a different value system in place. This is nothing like "hatred."

If the knee-jerk general conservative criticism of liberals is that we're "America-Haters," what do you think is the left's equiv. knee-jerk accusation going back the other direction? Conservatives are a bunch of snake-handlers" Jesus-freaks? Racists? "Nazis?" Prudes? Thought-police?

Good lord, we've really gotten ourselves into a lot of trouble with one another, haven't we? What is it going to take to get us to start talking to one another in a civil fashion?
