Day of Remembrance
1942-Style Bigotry Targets Muslims in the U.S. Today
Today is the 63rd anniversary of Executive Order 9066 which authorized the relocation and imprisonment of appx. 120,000 Japanese and Americans of Japanese ancestry from the west coast.
Lillian Nakano, "a third-generation Japanese-American from Hawaii" who was a teenager living in Hawaii during World War II, was sent to a camp with her family for the duration of the war.
She writes today in the LA Times about the Day of Remembrance.
