Smoke and Mirrors

The new troop withdrawl plan set forth by Bush is nothing more than smoke & mirrors.

The American public wants to keep our young men and women in the armed services safe from the violence in Afghanistan. Nobody is complaining about the conditions for soldiers in Germany, Asia and elsewhere in Europe.

With much fanfare, Bush announces the "redistribution" of 70,000 troops out of Europe and Asia while the problems facing our presence in the Middle East remain unanswered.

This movement of 70,000 troops "back home" from abroad creates the illusion that somehow we're winning the war on terror, that all is well in Iraq and Afghanistan and that our troops are beginning to come home. Nothing could be father from the truth, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these 70,000 who are coming home find themselves en route to Iraq before too long.
